Central to Mareli Lal's artistic practice is her intuitive methodology, wherein the creative process unfolds organically, guided by a commitment to authenticity and a sensitivity towards her subjects. While ideas may be outlined initially, the final outcome is shaped by her inherent responsiveness to the nuances of the moment, imbuing Lal's compositions with an emotive resonance that defies conventional categorization. 

Having studied photography at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth, Lal participated in her debut exhibition at Dirt Contemporary as part of a residency programme in 2005. With a FUJIFILM Award in the Fine Arts category, her artistic journey is a testament to the transformative power of interdisciplinary dialogue and the enduring resonance of visual storytelling.
