In the exhibition Parallel, the artist Ashley Walters reflects on the complexities of occularcentrism, artificiality and belonging.

In performing photography and deploying optical illusions the artist explores the effects of doubling, refraction, layering and distortion. These modalities encourage the viewer to look past the image, past the reflection in order to engage with the now. In work titled Fence, a two-channel video, the artist repeats the action of jumping over a vibracrete wall in search of something. The wall depicts a painting of the city of Cape Town without buffer zones. To see beyond the borders and boundaries, into the invisible landscape; exists a space of inclusion.
