ABSTRACT SOUTH AFRICAN ART: REVISITED is the fourth installment in a series of exhibitions about abstract South African art. The exhibition explores this important, yet neglected period of South African art history.

The move towards Modernist Abstraction in South African art in the early 1950s is an important development that introduced new trends and significant changes in the character of local art production.

The aim of the exhibition is to revisit and re-evaluate abstract art produced during this period and beyond. The success of the previous exhibitions has contributed towards an increased appreciation for and a marked increase in the value of these works in recent years.

Works by the following artists are included: Bill Ainslie, Kevin Atkinson, Kenneth Bakker, Walter Battiss, George Boys, Giuseppe Cattaneo, Christo Coetzee, Trevor Coleman, Nel Erasmus, Charles Gassner, Sydney Goldblat, Cecil Higgs, Sydney Kumalo, Erik Laubscher, Louis Maqhubela, Elsa Marschall, Dirk Meerkotter, Albert Newall, Ephraim Ngatane, Douglas Portway, Fred Schimmel, Larry Scully, Cecil Skotnes, Frank Spears, Hannatjie van der Wat Eben van der Merwe, Herman van Nazareth, Edoardo Villa.
